We got off to a good start Friday and had an uneventful trip to Atlanta. We found our hotel and then drove downtown to meet Amy's cousins
at The Varsity restaurant, the fast food icon near Georgia Tech.
Then we drove to Turner Field and watched the Braves demolish the Phillies.
It was also Star Wars Night there, so we got a fun show with lots of costumed fans.
It was a perfect night for baseball and the kids watched the game all the way through. We did the Tomahawk Chop regularly.
There was a great fireworks show to cap it all off.
We didn't get back to the motel until 11:30 so I wasn't able to post anything.
-----------------------------------------
Today (Saturday July 4) we got up early and rode a shuttle from the motel to the airport.
All travel went smoothly, (including a 3 hour layover in George W. Bush
airport in Houston, where the kids played GIANT chess)
and we got to LA on time at 4pm local time.
We had some luck with our rental car and got a free double upgrade because they had no cars in the class we had reserved. So we are tooling around California in a cool 2014 Dodge Charger for the next few weeks.
We found our hotel north of LA in Woodland Hills,
and got some delicious California sushi.
Now we are off to see the fireworks, which start at 12:30 a.m EST! Some tired kids will be sleeping in tomorrow. Tomorrow it's off to tour Hollywood, Beverly Hills, the Santa Monica Pier, and the Topanga Canyon, which is just a mile from where we are staying. I'll add pictures to today's post in the morning.
