California Mountain High

We are waaay up in the San Bernardino mountains, over a mile above sea level, in beautiful Lake Arrowhead. Except for the incessant rain, we really like it here. Thanks, JAW!

We started out our final San Diego morning with a big breakfast at the Golden Hill Cafe,
which is in the same block as our rental. It was the site of much of the movie K-9, and actor John Stamos is a regular there, but we didn't see him today. We DID see some huge plates of breakfast food that quickly disappeared.

Then we packed up and left the rental with its giant palm tree
and drove to the Mission de San Diego, where the first Europeans in California set up their church. Many of the 500 year old buildings still stand, and a few have been rebuilt.

They were having a Festival at the church, but the first rain we have seen in California put a stop to the fun when the power went out, and all the tents got flooded.

There was a mostly acoustic band (with 5 banjos!) that played a little.

The percussionist had an odd assortment of instruments he had fashioned into a one-man drum section.

Then it was time to say goodbye to San Diego. We headed for San Bernardino to stock up on groceries and gas, and then went east to Lake Arrowhead. The fog was incredibly thick and we crept through much of the trip.

It will be interesting to see what was on either side of the road on the way up when we drive back to LA.

The Village where we checked in is cute and has a bunch of restaurants and shops,

and there are neighboring towns with more. We found the way up to our nice chalet

and moved our stuff in, then went out to explore and eat.
Tomorrow we'll check out the Club, pool, game room and lake dock. There is plenty to keep us busy here.
